SEATTLE'S CHILDREN HOSPITAL - SUCCESS STORY

CONTINUING SUCCESS

Seattle Children's Hospital

INTRODUCTION

Seattle Children’s is one of the nation’s most renowned and respected children’s hospitals, academic centers, and research facilities. A $3.4 Billion organization with 10,000 employees and two thousand medical staff, it is consistently ranked among the nation’s best children’s hospitals by US News & World Report.

Innovation is at the heart of Seattle Children’s:

In using technologies to advance patient care and medicine

In improving the experience for patients and their families

In empowering their team members and developing the next generation of healthcare leaders

In order to continually innovate and drive medicine and business operations forward, Seattle Children’s recognizes the need to attract and retain top talent, particularly among its executive leadership team.

Consistently they turn to us, Blue Marble Executive Search, as a partner to lead and manage the searches for some of their most sensitive and critical executive roles. Blue Marble is a boutique firm known for our core focus of working with pediatric and academic medical centers and our deep understanding of the healthcare industry. Our understanding of the unique challenges facing pediatric and academic healthcare providers set us apart from the competition. Our approach is centered on providing a tailored and personalized experience for our client partners and the executives we seek to connect.

MISSIONS MADE POSSIBLE WITH BLUE MARBLE

CHIEF QUALITY & SAFETY OFFICER:

Innovation led to the creation of this new role for the organization. They needed a clinical leader with operations experience to lead the organization’s commitment to improving clinical outcomes and making patient safety a top priority.

We worked closely with Seattle Children’s executive suite to develop a thorough needs assessment, job description, and comprehensive recruitment strategy.

SENIOR MEDICAL DIRECTOR:

After a prominent and respected executive resigned, the need for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) was more apparent than ever, recognized both within the organization and the surrounding community. The hospital understood real, structural changes were needed and came to us to recruit a replacement that could integrate EDI into the core of every decision.

We knew this highly visible and sensitive search would require emotional intelligence and finesse. We initiated a search and interview process that included key stakeholders from the community, internal and external customers, colleagues, and staff members.

VICE PRESIDENT OF FACILITIES:

An emergency shutdown of the hospital’s operating room was a worst-case scenario that Seattle Children’s had to face. Following the resolution and reopening, they needed a leader that could bring the team together, rebuild morale and develop a preventative, proactive strategy for the future.

The hospital once again called us to take on the responsibility of this highly sensitive search. We sought out highly-profiled candidates in our network who had both the operations expertise and personality to rebuild the team’s trust.

POWER THROUGH PARTNERSHIP

Trust was at the heart of all these searches - in each case, the hospital needed a leader with different strengths, experiences, and attributes.  In every case, they needed someone who could walk in with the confidence, credibility, and ability to drive the organization forward.

In the past five years, we have established ourselves as Seattle Children’s trusted search partner because of our commitment to finding the best possible candidate for each role. With a renewed focus on leadership development, the hospital has been able to retain top talent and build a strong, sustainable executive team.
